Cats have been found aboard ships since early times, accompanying explorers, merchants and navies. Popular for rodent control, the cat would get the rat before the rats and mice could eat the crew’s food supply or any edible cargo. They also offered companionship to the crew when away on long voyages and many were seen as a lucky mascot.
Most of the inland waterways in Britain are looked after by the Canal and River Trust and to use these navigations you will need to purchase an annual licence. Licences can be paid for in monthly instalments, or in a one-off payment. Paying annually with the one-off payment option attracts a discount.

Whilst Gambling in Cyprus is currently illegal the Cyprus President, Nicos Anastasiades has recently declared that he is prepared to allow casinos to operate in Cyprus in an effort to boost revenue. It’s hardly likely to turn the island into a Las Vegas type resort but it is a major step toward offering more facilities for tourists.

The Bracewell Pacesetter 540 is a spacious, comfortable three stateroom yacht. It’s a design that exhibits an excellent use of space and provides more liveable volume than most 58 – 60 foot vessels. When operated in trawler-like fashion (10 knots) it performs extremely economically. But it can get up and go when needed — 21 knots or more.
Cyprus after the banking crisis is still alive and kicking as people turned out in their thousands to attend a charity concert. Admission to the day-long event in Nicosia- organised by Cyprus Aid - was free but revellers were asked to donate items, such as food and clothing, which could be distributed to the city's poor and unemployed. Volunteers were overwhelmed with hundreds of boxes of donations. One said: "We are doing this to help people and we want to send a message to people abroad that if we are united we can make things happen," Concert organiser, Nicko Zavallis, said the response from local people to the event had been "amazing". "We did not expect this outcome," he said. "People have been coming with trucks. Instead of a bag, they have been filling up trucks of goods and they have been bringing it to us."
Now these are really good and one of my favourite boating lunches or snacks whilst sailing along. The smell of cheese cooking is great on a boat, gets everyone hungry, including the dogs.
