Boarding may be either via the swim step through a transom door to the cockpit or via stairs to enter the saloon and lower helm station through the mid-cabin sliding door.
If choosing to board aft via the cockpit, you enter the full width aft master stateroom. It is complete with a small desk and storage to port. The berth is athwartships on the starboard side with handsome head and footboards and side tables either side. The master head, with a shower/bathtub, sink and toilet, is tastefully appointed and wallpapered. The suite has a privacy door separating it from the galley.
Forward, the galley is to port. It is fully complemented with a three burner Princess electric stove and oven, side-by-side stainless sink, Norcold Fridge and Freezer, Sanyo front loading freezer, Amana Radarrange Microwave, a Kenmore dishwasher, generous counter space and cupboards. A breakfast bar and chairs are slightly elevated: a great space for eating or keeping the cook company but not getting in the way!
Forward is the full width saloon. In my opinion, the large windows throughout give it an expansive feel; the beautiful teak interior (which appears to be in excellent condition) makes the boat very warm and inviting. The salon settee, chairs and table beckon me to sit and read a good book. Starboard, facing aft, is a short ladder and hatch to the fly bridge. Forward, just by the sliding door is the lower helm.
Stepping down and forward you enter the guest stateroom with a small desk, side-by-side bunks, ample storage and a head with separate shower, nice vanity and electric toilet.
Turning to move aft, you find a room located just forward of the engine room that has quite a bit of potential. Currently to port is an elevated platform with a mattress; to starboard are the washer and dryer. This space could easily be crew quarters, converted to a storage room or remodeled as a large workroom. Aft through a smaller door is the engine room; aft of the engine room is another area for storage, accessed on your knees only.
You will be comfortable all year round with two sources of heat provided by a diesel furnace or electric heaters.

VIRTUAL TOUR - VIDEO - 80 TO 100 PHOTOS - FULL SPECS CAN BE VIEWED OF THIS 1979 NORDLUND 53.
Nordlund Yachts is a well-known and respected builder of quality yachts in the Pacific Northwest. This yacht is a classic and represents her era well. She is solid, has been kept in a boathouse the majority of her life, the hull and interior show no damage and engines have been professionally maintained. Work completed May 2019: new bottom paint, new zincs, majority of the brightwork refurbished and exterior and interior professionally detailed.
Owner reports she will cruise comfortably at 9 knot consuming only approximately 8 gallons/hour. Engines have approximately 2700 hours per engine.
In my opinion, she is stately with great lines and has a beautiful, clean teak interior. Though dated, all of her electronics and galley equipment are operational. She would be a great live aboard or potential charter; there is plenty of room for a large family or friends.
