Broker's Comments

At 65 ft with her (removable) bowsprit and weighing in at 34 tonnes, this Alan Mason designed steel gaff rigged topsail schooner is more like a small ship than a large yacht.

She's believed to be one of only six built. She was recommissioned in Australia and shipped to the UK where Pendennis boatyard undertook interior refitting. There are many photographs detailing the work carried out, and a box full of blueprints. Her current owner, a shipwright, has lavished two years' work on the keel and hull, which surveyed satisfactorily in 2019.

He has had the masts renovated and commissioned a stainless steel fitting that enables the bowsprit to be removed when marina berthed.

Previous owners have invested hugely upon renovations - her beautiful flush teak deck must have accounted for a lot of that.

On account of the engineering works, it is estimated her Beta engine has done less than 100 hours since installation.

The sails have been individually examined and the biggest issue is the replacement of a 4ft x 3ft panel on the main sail, and in a few places, the bolt rope needs recovering. There also a large cruising chute that looks in excellent condition. The stainless steel rigging appears to be satisfactory for a vessel of this size.

Beyond her saloon, the interior needs refurbishment and she needs basic navigation equipment so that this remarkable vessel can achieve her possible potential as an ocean cruiser, a training school ship, a unique live aboard or a charter boat. These are just some of the opportunities that may be awaiting the next owner of this classic schooner.
